Assists in repair, installation, and preventive maintenance of heavy industrial equipment such as large pumps, valves, and compressors.
- Disassemble, clean, replace parts, and assemble heavy industrial equipment typically found in waterworks systems including pumps, valves, motors, and compressors;
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspect equipment for proper operation or signs of malfunction. Use electronic test equipment to collect machine data such as vibration and shaft alignment;
- Obtain parts and supplies as necessary to complete repairs;
- Assist mechanic in installation of new equipment or repair of existing equipment;
- Assist in documentation of work orders and contacting vendors;
- Check pumps periodically for leaks;
- Perform related duties as directed.
Education
Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one year experience in maintenance and/or repair of heavy stationary equipment; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Valid Current Driver's License

Knowledge Of
- Principles and methods of mechanical repair.
Ability to:
- Use a variety of power, pneumatic, and hand tools;
- Properly use safety equipment such as gas detectors and breathing apparatus;
- Drive a forklift;
- Handle tools, repair parts, etc.;
- Perform hard physical labor around sewage.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lift and carry and lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds;
- Frequently stand and walk during the shift;
- Frequently climb ladders, stairs and inclined surfaces;
- Frequently pull and push objects;
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;
- Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right and left while sitting and standing;
- Place arms above, at or below shoulder height;
- Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle;
- Frequently bend and kneel while working on equipment;
- Move body in a crawling motion.
