Location: S.K. Keller Water Treatment Plant, 3655 Keller Circle, Tarpon Springs, FL 34688
Schedule: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm; 4:00 pm – 12:00 midnight; 12:00 midnight – 8:00 am. Specific shift may vary based on the needs of the operation.

Operation and Maintenance activities associated with operation and minor maintenance of a 50 MGD drinking water treatment plant and remotely located water booster stations and transmission system.
What You Would Do
- Operate, monitor and adjust various drinking water treatment and transmission system equipment and processes.
- Perform drinking water treatment process control sampling and laboratory analysis.
- Monitor SCADA system for system control, alarm conditions, and drinking water treatment plant and water booster station problems.
- Monitor telephone for after-hours call-in, dispatch appropriate standby crews.
- Daily use of various software applications, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OPUS, FACE.
- Create work order requests.
- Complete daily, weekly; monthly Maximo work orders.
- Compile data to assist with FDEP monthly/annual compliance reports for submittal to Regulatory Agencies.
- Maintain process optimization reports as assigned.
- Work various shifts as needed or assigned to meet organizational requirements.
- Provide process control feedback to Water Treatment Plant Operators I, II and III.
- Assist mechanical staff with planned maintenance of treatment facility equipment.
- Attend mandatory "all shifts" Operations staff meetings as needed (monthly).
- Prepare data for entry into operations and regulatory reporting spread sheets.
- Participate in Emergency Response Plan Department Essential functions as designated during emergency or storm events. (ride out the storm at assigned location)
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
What Do you Need To Have?
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess at least a “C” license by no later than two (2) years of appointment.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver’s License or Commercial Driver’s License upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
- Participate in Emergency Response Plan Phase 1 (ride out the storm) or Phase 2 (respond after the storm) as designated.
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
Highly Desirable
- Agreement to complete a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) approved training course to obtain a passing score on the Florida Water or Wastewater Plant Operator Class “C” License as set forth in Florida Administrative Code Chapter 62-602, DEP describing Water or Domestic Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators and Water Distribution System Operators license requirements within 18 months of hire.
- FDEP Drinking Water Treatment Plant Operator's License Class C, B, or A.
- Post-high school coursework including Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM).
- Ability to work with others as part of a team.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of the functions and servicing requirements of a water plant operation, as well as the general operation knowledge of utility specific machinery and equipment, such as filters, pumps, valves, generators, mixers, and filling machines utilized in water treatment operations.
- Knowledge of basic chemistry tests and related mathematics.
- Knowledge of the function and processes of computer control and interface systems.
- Knowledge of potable water production treatment processes.
- Skill in operating and servicing mechanical equipment utilized in operation of water treatment plants.
- Ability to apply computer applications and software.
- Ability to perform basic laboratory tests.
- Ability to adjust and regulate a variety of automatic or manually controlled auxiliary equipment to ensure safe operations.
- Ability to anticipate and adjust systems due to changing factors, such as, water quality, weather, and other factors.
- Ability to operate water treatment plants.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
- Ability to communicate courteously and tactfully with members of the public.
- Ability to use or repair small, medium, and heavy equipment and machinery.
- Ability to communicate and work well with others.
