This position is responsible for performing difficult professional and intermediate administrative and supervisory work in directing the operation and maintenance of the water treatment and pumping plant. The work involves responsibility for supplying potable and palatable water to consumers through supervisory and other personnel. This position requires contact with customers, Federal and State officials, etc., to explain technical issues. Physical demands are moderate. The work is performed under the general managerial review of the Water Plant Superintendent, with considerable opportunity for discretion and independence of action. The incumbent serves as the Superintendent in the absence of the WTP Superintendent; is responsible for all aspects of the operations and maintenance of the water plant, filter press, raw water pump stations; and ensuring the plant is operating in compliance with all water quality, environmental and safety regulations. The incumbent makes decisions that affect the treatment process and supervises others who operate, maintain and support the plant; and supports and assists the Water Treatment Plant Superintendent in overseeing all these functions. The incumbent assists the WTP Superintendent with all O&M and capital improvement programs and overseeing the annual operating budget and interacts with customers regarding water quality and pressure issues. The Assistant Superintendent acts as the Shift Leader during the assigned shift.
