This is supervisory work in the water treatment plant, responsible for assuring the quality of potable water is meeting all regulations. This work involves general oversight on all aspects of Water Treatment Plant operations including personnel, budgetary, treatment, maintenance, regulatory and public relations concerns. Work is performed under general direction.The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Supervise employees and inspect plant and well field.
- Assure proper operations and that the plant meets all federal, state and local requirements.
- Compile and prepare reports as required by local, state and federal governments and agencies.
- Prepare and present annual budget.
- Interview, counsel and evaluate subordinates.
- Coordinate with contractors making repairs or additions to the plant or its equipment.
- Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
- Cover water treatment plant operator shifts occasionally as needed.
- On call to respond to emergency situations.
- Perform all functions and responsibilities according to the Palm Beach County Code of ethics and Florida State Statutes 112.313.
- High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- Five (5) years Treatment Plant related and supervisory experience.
- Must possess State of Florida Class "A" Water Treatment Plant Certification.
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and clean driving record.
- Requires demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer and office software such as MS Word, MS Excel, and electronic mail.
Knowledge of department and plant rules and regulations. Knowledge of the policies and goals of the department. Knowledge of laboratory testing of the water. Knowledge of the operation of treatment plant including chemical and mechanical functions. Ability to direct the work of others through direct reports. Ability to prepare reports. Ability to manage and prioritize routine, specialized and complex assignments and problems utilizing knowledge acquired through prior education, training, and experience. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment.
