Summary Of Classification
The Wastewater Plant Operator I is a trainee position that assists the primary shift operator in the operation of the Wastewater Plant. Under the supervision of a licensed operator, the trainee will perform various assigned duties that relate to the proper operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant and any other location maintained by the wastewater plant personnel. Punctuality and attendance is necessary.
Essential Job Duties
Learn routine wastewater quality analysis for each stage of the treatment process and accurately records data on routine forms. Confirms that process chemicals are feeding accurately to ensure proper treatment and compliance with State standards. Performs preventative maintenance on plant equipment. Monitors filter performance and performs routine backwashing. Communicates clearly and professionally with city employees and the public. Performs general custodial and lawn care duties. Performs any other function or duty as required.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, lift and climb into small areas, and transport self from building to building. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures maintaining wastewater plant equipment and materials. Employees lifts materials weighing up to 50lbs, chemicals and equipment necessary to complete the work. Employee may also be exposed to hazardous chemicals or materials while treating or maintaining water.
Required Contacts
Employee communicates with other city employees and managers in order to receive instructions or respond to information. Must have strong communication skills to be able to effectively and professionally interact with customers, both, in person and over the phone.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills - Ability to read and prepare tests and lab reports. Skilled in math in determining amount of materials and chemicals necessary for treatment. Skilled in the use of a variety of machines and heavy equipment such as tractors and mowers. Ability to work well without constant supervision.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification - High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Texas Driver's License. Must receive Texas Class D Wastewater License within first year of employment and Texas Class C Wastewater License before the end of the second year of employment.
