Position Purpose:
Veolia Water is currently seeking a Wastewater Operator to work in the Jones Island Milwaukee area.
The Wastewater Operator will operate and maintain the wastewater treatment plant in compliance with the site indirect discharge permit, including lab analysis of process samples, minor and preventive maintenance of equipment, and complete other tasks as assigned by the Lead Wastewater Operator, Account Manager, or other Veolia Leadership personnel.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Operate the equipment and processes at the WWTP, including the anaerobic reactor, aerobic reactors, DAFs, chemical feed systems, wastewater pumps, blowers, and gas flare.
- Sample and analyze process and effluent samples from various locations within the wastewater plant to determine compliance and treatment efficiencies.
- Evaluate sample data in order to make process changes to improve treatment efficiency and maintain compliance.
- Ensure the cleanliness of the equipment, plant, office, and lab.
- Detect and report operational or treatment issues to the Lead Wastewater Operator.
- Communicates effectively via written and oral methods with co-workers, supervisors, managers, and others when necessary.
- WWTP runs 24/7/365, therefore must be able to work 12-hr shifts.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in an industrial environment and involves exposure to dust, odors, extremes in temperatures and humidity, noise; exposure to sewage, gases, process chemicals, moving equipment, and blended sludges.
- Generally works rotating 12-hour shiftsand is subject to overtime, recall and call-in.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- Environmental Associates Degree or higher, and/or Wastewater Operator Certification is a must.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Operator should be knowledgeable of many different types of wastewater systems; metal precipitation/clarification, biological (aerobic and anaerobic), filtration, andmembrane technologies.
- Knowledge of operating equipment used in wastewater treatment.
- Knowledge of the operation and adjustment of valves, mechanical pumps, motors, and semi-automatic controls.
- Ability to read and understand a variety of dials, meters, and gauges.
- Ability to prepare a log of routine activity.
- Ability to enter data.
- Knowledge of Windows based computer operating system.
- Basic skills in computers and data input devices, email, application and office software.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
- Participation in Veolia Water programs to keep current with technology is required.
- Participation in formal education opportunities, job-related course work through MATC, and/or State Certification Training to keep current with technology is desired.
