Summary
This position is responsible for the collection, segregation, and packaging of waste created during the analysis of environmental samples. The duties of this position represent routine procedures that are carried out independently.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
- Conducts all activities in a safe and efficient manner
- Demonstrates and supports core values of GEL
- Collects non-hazardous and hazardous liquid and solid waste created during analytical processes
- Segregates non-hazardous, hazardous, and radioactive waste for disposal in accordance with all applicable state and federal regulations
- Neutralizes acidic wastewater to reduce the amount of hazardous waste disposal
- Packages laboratory waste and excess client samples for proper disposal
- Operates basic laboratory instrumentation and equipment
- Follows written and verbal instructions
- Performs other duties as assigned
Typical Education And Experience Required
High school diploma or equivalent with some related work experience. A background in chemistry and math is desirable. Associates or bachelors in a science field and/ or prior experience in hazardous waste management are a plus.

- Ability to work independently
- Demonstrated computer skills in WORD and EXCEL
- Ability to multi-task with good time management skills
- Employs meticulous attention to details

Physical Requirements And Working Environment
The physical demands outlined are representative of those that are required for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
- Mobility to work in a laboratory and warehouse setting
- Use of standard office and lab equipment and stamina to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Able to routinely lift 50 lbs., stand on feet up to 10 hrs., use of both hands, lift and reach overhead
Work is performed in a laboratory setting which is subject to chemicals, and potential fumes, gasses, noxious odors, and related items typical for this environment.
