Overview:
This Public Health Environmental Specialist will play a key role in overseeing autosampler deployment, sampling logistics, data management, and facility support for Missouri’s Wastewater Surveillance Program.
Preferred candidates will be full-time and required to work onsite in Jefferson City, MO - no remote option for this position.
Key responsibilities include managing autosampler inventory, coordinating sample collection and delivery schedules, and providing technical guidance to facility operators. The applicant will also maintain communication with labs and couriers, addressing any logistical or operational issues to ensure seamless program operations and data quality. Additionally, the applicant is responsible for tracking and analyzing dataandensuring data accuracy to support program objectives.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, public health, biology, engineering, or a related field
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and database management
- Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills for addressing equipment issues and operational challenges in remote settings
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with facility operators, lab personnel, and couriers
- Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately track equipment, sampling schedules, and maintain data quality
- Flexibility: Ability to travel to facilities as needed to provide on-site support
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical Expertise: Experience with autosamplers or similar environmental monitoring equipment; familiarity with environmental sampling equipment is a plus
- Project Management: Background in project coordination, particularly in environmental or public health programs
- Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in environmental monitoring, field operations, or project coordination
- Field Experience: Hands-on experience in field sampling, wastewater monitoring, or similar field operations
- Data Analysis: Familiarity with data analysis software (e.g., R/Python/SAS, Tableau) or statistical methods for environmental data
- Knowledge of Regulations: Understanding of wastewater surveillance protocols, environmental regulations, or public health guidelines
- Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, labs, and facility operators
