Summary:The foreman for the Water Distribution crew is responsible for supervising a crew of workers involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of a water distribution system, including tasks like locating leaks, replacing pipes, managing valve operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and overseeing daily operations to maintain consistent water pressure and quality across a designated area; they typically plan work schedules, assign tasks, and ensure proper documentation of repairs and maintenance activities
What you’ll do:
Manages and participates in installation, repair and maintenance of underground water mains and other associated components including hydrants, meters, water mains, water service lines, valves and pumps
Manages, participates in and trains employees in the operation of appropriate motor and other equipment including back hoes, trucks, drills, tapping machines, and locating devices
Assists in the coordination and inspection of work performed by contractors
Coordinates and participates in the preventative maintenance, service and repair activities of the water distribution vehicles and equipment
Manages the testing for and repair of leaks in mains and services
Supervises and participates in the taking of routine water samples for water quality testing
Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, safety guidelines, schedules and work specifications
Uses electronic equipment to verify location of underground utility facilities prior to excavation work being performed, and performs fire flow tests
Assigns, schedules and verifies completed work involved in the repair and maintenance of a water distribution system
May assist in the preparation of the departmental budget; Maintains accurate records and prepares reports, such as status reports, diagrams, field logs and requisitions
Assists in designing new water system projects
Calculates proper ratio of chlorine to water based on formula’s specific to water chlorination
Responds to customer’s inquiries and complaints regarding water service
What you bring:
5+ years of experience in utility inspection, maintenance, or a related field
Comprehensive knowledge of utility infrastructure, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
Proven experience in operations management and leadership within a utility or municipal setting
Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with contractors, staff, and community members
Proficiency in record-keeping and reporting software, with attention to accuracy and detail
Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in a variety of field and office environments
Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to safety protocols
Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands and arms
Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crawl
Work in outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold, and near moving mechanical parts
Must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
