We are currently accepting applications for a
Wastewater Skilled Worker. This position performs a wide variety of wastewater maintenance-related tasks, including the repair and maintenance of Wastewater infrastructure. Work is often strenuous and repetitive and is performed on the basis of clear instruction or direct supervision.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Under direct supervision, performs general duties necessary to the repair, installation and maintenance of the Wastewater infrastructure and facilities, Work is often strenuous and repetitive.
- CDL Training provided by employer.
- Use backhoes, hydro-excavators, 7 yard dump trucks, truck and trailer combinations, air hammers, and trench shoring equipment.
- Performs maintenance to Wastewater mains, service stubs and MH’s. Conducts traffic control / flagging in the city's rights-of-way.
- Responds to emergency calls after regular business hours (overtime): customer requests, main and service stub breaks.
- Supports other departments during emergency events like snow & ice, flooding, and windstorms.
Qualifications
- Basic mechanic skills/knowledge. Knowledge/experience in construction.
- Excellent customer service experience with the general public. Basic computer and keyboard skills.
- Comfortable with technology like iPhone and tablets.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively on teams.
- General knowledge and ability to interpret maps, drawings, and records.
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to safety procedures, work rules and guidelines.
- Possess excellent verbal, listening and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must be able and willing to work overtime (including nights and weekends). Required to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Washington State Driver's license within one month from date of hire. Must have and maintain a good driving record by City Standards.
- Must be able to obtain a Washington State Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement within one year of employment. The city provides training.
- Selected candidates who possess a current CDL, must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test (consistent with Federal Laws requiring drug and alcohol testing for all job classifications requiring a CDL).
- Selected candidates who do not currently possess a CDL will be subject to a drug and alcohol test upon obtaining CDL in accordance with DOT rules and regulations.

Supplemental Information
Physical
- Must be able to lift up to 90 lbs. and engage in considerable pulling, pushing, and climbing.
- Work is done mostly outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Common hazards include traffic, underground lines, chemicals, and equipment.
- Individuals must have adequate hearing and visual acuity to successfully perform the essential job functions and requirements of the position.
- Individuals must be able to hear, speak and understand verbal communication and other outside sound sources. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Required to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.

Medical
Employees are offered a choice of medical coverage through the City's self-insured Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan or Kaiser Permanente (HMO).
Dental
Employees are offered a choice of two dental carriers with plans that offer regular checkups, x-rays, fillings, and crowns. Orthodontia is available through one of the carriers.
Vision
Employees are offered a choice of vision coverage through an annual exam-only plan or a buy-up plan which includes an annual eye exam and hardware coverage.
Retirement Plans - Employees Are Offered Three Retirement Plans

Paydays - The City of Bellevue pays employees on the 8th and the 23rd of each month (24 pay periods per year).
Please note that the City does not participate in the Social Security Administration (SSA) program, and employees do not earn social security credits. The mandatory DRS retirement pension plan provides the required social security replacement plan. Any social security benefits earned at other places of employment may be reduced because they are subject to the Windfall Elimination Provision or the Government Pension Offset.
