Summary
Plans, directs, and supervises operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities.
Essential Functions
- Ensure continual regulatory compliance through effective metrics monitoring, proactive maintenance requests, and sound operational practices.
- Foster positive relationships with regulatory agencies through compliance, transparency, and prompt notification and response times.
- Investigate operational problems and analyze operational records to ensure efficient, practical operating procedures are consistently used;
- Prepare and monitor annual operating budget;
- Prepare complex written reports and oral presentations concerning plant operations;
- Provide direction and training to subordinate employees;
- Maintain and oversee an effective, ongoing safety program;
- Initiate equipment repairs, identify equipment needs, and suggest modifications;
- Protect the public health through the application of knowledge and skills concerning waste water treatment plant operations;
- Develop and maintain public relations and associated public information programs;
- Coordinate effluent pumping with land application site managers;
- Provide management support to plant laboratory operations;
- Coordinate with Industrial Waste Monitoring and Pre-treatment program, and sludge disposal operations;
- Perform related duties as directed.
Qualifications
Completion of a bachelor degree in biology, chemistry, environmental engineering, business administration, or a related field with an additional five to seven years responsible supervisory experience in a wastewater treatment plant; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Valid Current Driver's License
Waste Water Class A License is preferred
Waste Water "B" or ability to get certificate

Knowledge Of
- The theory and operating techniques of waste water treatment.
- Waste water laboratory procedures.
- Safe operating practices.
- Budgeting procedures.
- Fiscal management.
Ability To
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing; make effective presentations
- Coordinate work among numerous work groups, agencies, and multiple City departments.
- Plan and manage the work of others.
- Use good interpersonal skills.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with regulatory agencies and other parties.
- Prepare and administer a budget.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently stand and walk;
- Frequently flex upper truck forward;
- Frequently lift up to 10 pounds;
- Frequently push and pull objects;
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward, partial flexing o knees;
- Frequently reach above, at or below shoulder height;
- Continuously talk, see and hear.
